What is Fake Recruitment?

I was inspired to write an article on “fake recruitment’ from a passing comment made to me by a candidate I met recently. The candidate told me that they tend to steer clear of professional networking platforms, such as LinkedIn, because of “fake recruitment”.

So, what is Fake Recruitment?

This candidate’s interpretation of “fake recruitment” is when a Recruitment Consultant makes contact with a potential candidate to discuss future opportunities, but without specific roles in mind.

Working at Australia’s leading professional services recruitment firm, I take pride in providing a first-rate service to both candidates and clients, and networking through platforms such as LinkedIn, can often lead to life-changing results for both parties.

There are a magnitude of reasons why networking on professional platforms can be successful. Below are my personal insights as to why this networking is worthwhile:

  • It is a chance for you to explore the labyrinth of opportunities a career path can take and create, that may have been previously unthought of
  • It is an opportunity for you to identify your career aspirations and long term goals, both personally and professionally, in order to pair them with an opportunity that is fully aligned to your expectations
  • As a professional who speaks to the whole spectrum of accounting firms, I am able to advise you on the current state of the market and help you benchmark yourself in terms of salary and workplace benefits/flexibility
  • It is an opportunity for us to evaluate your strengths and technical skills to give you a well-rounded and comprehensive view of your professional abilities

The right role and firm can have an enormously positive impact on all aspects of your life and create new purpose. It is understandable that unprompted communication from recruiters can be met with reservations but it should be viewed as an opportunity to broaden your horizons and keep in-tune with the market.

I feel it is important to ensure that, when the time is right for you, you have a trusted advisor to speak to. This is the driving factor behind my work and I am passionate about helping everyone I come into contact with.
