Why Accountants Should Job Hunt over the Holiday Season

Whilst 2022 has been an extremely busy year, and everyone will want to recharge their batteries over the summer break, the festive period is actually the perfect time to start your job search if looking for a new role.

There is a misconception that everyone turns off their computer whilst waiting for Santa to deliver their presents, so here are three key reasons as to why the end of this year could be a cracker!

Be a stand out candidate

A profile picture is often your first impression online and how people visually connected with you. LinkedIn is a professional network so having pictures with pets, a skydiving photo, or laying on the beach will not be suitable. As a simple rule of thumb, view it as a professional headshot. Also make sure the picture is recent and looks like you.

Budgets are approved for hiring

Budgets are pre-approved for recruitment and new hires, leading up to the start of the new calendar year. Accounting Partners I have spoken to want to commence or resume interviewing candidates straight away when they return from their holiday break. There are lots of firms looking for accountants to start in the new year and will move quickly when they find someone.

Utilise technology for job interviews

Whilst many offices shut down over the festive period, the current hybrid working environment has brought video interviewing to the forefront. If a potential employer sees the profile of a perfect candidate, who’s to say they have to wait until workplaces open again to have a chat. They can Zoom you on the same day that you apply for a role and not have to wait until the end of the holiday season to meet you!

Don’t get left behind in your job hunt. Although many industries slow down at the end of the year, recruitment still continues… there’s never a bad time to look for your dream job!
